Anyone who uses Twitter must be blind not to have seen the above hashtag over the last few days. Yesterday
(Thursday 2nd July) it was the highest rated trending topic on Twitter, but what's it all about? #Moonfruit is looking to be the biggest and most successful marketing campaign to date using Twitter. The company Moonfruit is a web hosting and web-building site which is currently celebrating being in business for 10 years. As part of those celebrations, Moonfuit are giving away a MacBook Pro every day, for 10 days to a person picked at random who uses Twitter to Tweet a message which includes #Moonfruit. The great thing is that this is free to enter, and you can enter as many times as you like – you just need a Twitter account. Of course this isn't the first company to use Twitter in this way, but it certainly appears to be the first to use it successfully and so effectively. What are the downsides? Well the biggest downside seems to be that with so many Twitterers doing multiple #Moonfruit tweets, the chances of actually winning are fairly remote. But hey – it costs nothing to enter, and how long does it take to type #Moonfruit into your Twitter feed. I know that yesterday I got a couple of tweets in while I was waiting for a document to print! The other thing about this promotion is the the way it has caught people's imagination, and the many different ways they can use #Moonfruit in their tweets. However for me the best thing is the chance (albeit it very remote) of winning a MacBook Pro , and this is why for the next week or so you'll see plenty more #Moonfruit Tweets on my Twitter Feed. |
