the plan being that she uses while she is in Trinidad. At the time we thought about the warranty issue, and how, if things went wrong it might be hard to get repaired.  However we concluded that the pros of the good price outweighed the risk and hassles of getting it sorted out if it went wrong during the warranty period.

Of course something has gone wrong with it, and it’s not powering up, and it’s getting very close to the warranty running out.  Carrie’s sent it back to me to get sorted out, and as I write this I’m hoping if it’s not already in the UK, it’s somewhere over the Atlantic.

A few days ago I got in touch with Dixons Duty Free to advise them of the problem, and that we wished to invoke the terms of the warranty, as I didn’t want it turning up a couple of days after the warranty had expired.  In the first instance I called Dixons at Gatwick, expecting them to tell me to cart the computer round to their nearest branch of Currys to sort out.

This is exactly what they said, however this morning I got a phone call from the Manager of Dixons Duty Free following up my previous call, and wanting to know how things were progressing.  Of course Carrie’s computer hasn’t arrived yet, and I told him that I would be contacting Curry’s as soon as it does arrive.  He told me not to do that, but to take it direct to my local PC World, for them to do a diagnostic and consider appropriate action.  He also made sure that I had his name and that of his Deputy Manager, just in case the computer arrived back late, and happened to be outside the warranty period.

Today’s top-marks for customer service go to Dixons Duty Free, and especially Paul Dorrington, who went to the trouble of calling my mobile this morning to make sure that things get sorted out as quickly and as easily as possible.
