I don’t want the title to
sound pretentious in any way, but it was the first thought that went
through my mind when it was revealed on the Skating Forum
SerpentineRoad.com that the person knocked down and killed by a Porsche
in Knightsbridge, London on Monday night, was the Hyde Park Slalomer Krissi.
There had been speculation the
previous day as another forum member who had seen the aftermath of the
‘accident’, and although not knowing who the victim was, posted their concerns on the
forum as there were a lot of slalom cones in the road at the scene.
Of course despite (according
to thelondonpaper.com), the driver of the Porsche being arrested on
suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, the full
details of
the incident are not known.
We all know the inherent
dangers of skating, and especially skating on the roads, yet this case
is especially tragic, as it is believed that Krissi was not in fact
skating that the time.
As I’m writing this, members
of the London Skating Community will be gathering at Hyde Park Corner, and,
will be going to where the incident happened so that flowers can be
laid, and respects paid.
I for one didn’t know Krissi
IRL, however when something like this happens to someone in such a
small community that the skating community is, it brings to mind your
own mortality. |
