Beware of the SLC Ltd

Open Office PDF Print E-mail

What was significant for me that there was no MS Office (or the low-rent Works which so many PC's come with these days!) with my XP disc.

A lot of my work involves writing, however I also need to access and update spreadsheets, and I give the occasional presentation.  As everything at my workplace is based MS Office applications, I had to have something which was compatible.  I certainly did not want to spend the £329.00 that Office 2007 is today (15/08/2008) being advertised for in PC World.  The obvious choice for me was Open Office, which can be downloaded for free from openoffice.org.

Open Office is a cross-platform suite of office tools.  This means that it is compatible with not only Windows, but also Linux and Mac operating systems.  It contains word Processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.  You can read and edit Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents, which means that whenever I word from home, there are no compatibility issues.  Furthermore there is a feature which allows documents to be converted directly to Flash or PDF – useful for those who update and develop web-sites!
