Inserting the Motherboard |

All that remains before sorting out the spaghetti of wires is to insert the motherboard onto which we mounted all of the most delicate of components. This requires some thought as once again, if not done correctly could result in an expensive mistake. Firstly, I had to remove the cover on the case where the sockets come out, and ensure that the motherboard when mounted did not come in contact with the case – running the risk of short circuit. To ensure that the motherboard is clear of the case, the assembly kit of assorted screws should come with a few short, (approx 5mm) pillars. These screw into the raised mounting points in the case, and onto them is screwed the motherboard itself. My case had far more mounting points than I had pillars, so it was necessary for me to ensure that they were reasonably spaced apart. When positioning and screwing down the motherboard it is all too easy to get a wire trapped underneath the board. To ensure that this did not happen I draped all my wires outside the case whilst I secured the motherboard the only other items that I installed were a couple of 4" cold cathode tubes to light up the case. As the case fans came with blue LEDs, I thought that the whole effect withthe windows side would be nicely set off with some more blue illumination.
