Once I'd ripped the boxes open, and made sure that everything was there, the next trick is to put everything together. There are a few things that you MUST remember, as otherwise it is likely that you will made some expensive mistakes:

• Always handle components with care:

Computer components are very delicate, and by putting your great big paws on delicate printed circuits, you are likely to damage components.

• Ensure that you are earthed at all times:

Computer components are very delicate (have I said that already?) and can easily be damaged by electrical discharge or static. In ensuring that you are earthed, this means that any electrical charge that has build up in your body is discharged before handling delicate parts or equipment.
